Minimize Accident Damage 1
Apr

There are many things you can do to minimize the impact of an auto wreck or accident. Number one, always wear seat belts. Make sure loose items are secure and will not hit you if involved in an accident. Keep regular maintenance of your vehicle to ensure that it is in top condition. Follow safe driving practices, such as no handling your cell phone in your vehicle, avoid taking your eyes off the road, and anticipate potential problems before they become hazardous.

Control your braking, and steer smoothly. Overcorrecting turns may mean that you might flip off the road. Sometimes the best way to avoid an accident is to speed up instead of slow down. Do your best to control your vehicle’s speed in an accident, since every mph counts. Do not lower your head in the event of a crash, as this may increase the risk of an injury. Also, make sure to keep at least 6” away from the steering wheel.

Last but not least, don’t panic!

Automatic vs Manual: What’s Best For You 9
Mar

The automatic transmission has been popular since the 1950s. Some people think it’s due to the type of roads we have, as well as the numerous stoplights make manual transmissions difficult to drive with. Manual transmission give the driver more control over the gears, making driving on hills less challenging, offering more power. Automatic transmissions will be helpful to city drivers and that stop and go traffic. Repair costs for manual transmissions are cheaper than automatic. Manuals are also lighter than automatic transmissions, and they are less likely to overheat.

Even though at first glance manuals might be more efficient than automatics, about 80% of Americans use automatics, most likely due to heavy city driving. There are other types of automatics as well that one should consider. Tiptronic transmissions allow for driving like an automatic transmission, but lets the drier choose the gear. The semi-automatic, or clutchless manual, gives the driver complete control by shifting gears electronically, used mostly by racecar drivers. When getting a new or used car, research the type of transmission you would like by the type of driving you normally do.

Some great tips for going off road 20
Dec

The fact is that you probably didn’t buy your 4×4 to stay on the paved roads. While you may not be Lewis and Clark making your way to a new frontier, it can be fun to get off road once in awhile. The snow brings with it the joy of crossing icy fields and being the first to drive across a fresh layer of powder. It reaches to our inner satisfaction that we receive with a blank peace of paper or a freshly painted wall. It represents limitless possibility for play.

There are a few important points that you want to keep in mind:

  • Know what the weather will be like. A harsh winter storm isn’t always the best time to be axle deep in snow.
  • Always take along a buddy, it’s not only more fun but it’s good to have a 2nd person along if there i an issue.
  • On idea to remember is that if you get stuck, gunning it will usually only get you going in deeper. Take some time, move the wheel to the side and try and rock yourself to freedom. It isn’t the only way, unfortunately the only good teacher at getting unstuck is experience.
  • Be honest with yourself about what your driving. Tell yourself the truth, it’s a small SUV with city tires not a Hummer.
  • Be responsible about where you drive. It’s generally more convenient but a farmers mud ridden field is not place to practice your high speed turns.

It’s your SUV and it’s meant to have fun in. Having that fun is always best if no one gets seriously hurt or killed, by using s small bit of common sense, good manners and listening to the advise of those who have gotten stuck before is a key to that enjoyment.

Prepare Your Tires for Fall 9
Oct

Whatever your dream road trip is, don’t let it turn into a nightmare because of a tire problem. Before you hit the road, have your tires rotated and balanced by Maita Chevrolet’s experts.

An out of balance tire can not only lead to greater risk of tire failure, but it could adversely affect ride quality, shorten the life of your tires, bearings, shocks and other suspension components.

Tire balance also referred to as tire unbalance or imbalance, describes the distribution of mass within an automobile tire and/or the wheel to which it is attached. When the tire rotates, asymmetries of mass cause the wheel to wobble. This wobbling can give rise to ride disturbances and vibrations and results in a wobbling of the steering. The ride disturbance due to unbalance usually increases with speed.

During the tire rotation, tires are inspected in factories and repair shops by two methods: static balancers and dynamic balancers. Tires with high unbalance forces are downgraded or rejected. When tires are fitted to wheels at the point of sale, they are measured again, and correction weights are applied to counteract the combined effect of the tire and wheel unbalance.

The experts at our service center have a thorough knowledge of Chevrolet car repair. Our mechanics consistently provide our customers with high-quality auto repairs because we know how much you depend on your car, truck or SUV.
